Psalm 2 - Kiss The Son

Psalm 2 is one of the reasons our good God allowed for the development of rock ‘n roll.

When the New Testament writers make reference back to the older Scriptures, there are two places they go more than any other; Psalm 110, and Psalm 2. This psalm has a direct and close-up bearing on New Testament theology. And what is it the psalmist brings to New Testament theology? Jesus as God’s enthroned King is the message of Psalm 2, and one that we need to hear loud and clear these days. Jesus is King, you rulers of the earth, and your options before him are to bow the knee and kiss his hand, to be willingly subservient to him (cf. Ps. 110), or perish eternally. You have no other choices.

This is the menu God provides for all men in every time and place. Obey the Lord Jesus. Do what he says. Love him with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength. Put your back into it. Fix your affections on him. Learn of him and his ways by studying his word. Learn to love what he loves, and to hate what he hates. Join together with his people to worship him every week. Love his people. Honor Christ the King. Show him allegiance by your thoughts, words, and deeds.

Or don’t.

What you do with Jesus matters. If you toss him off as unimportant, if you regard belief in him as a disease, if you think he is not real, if you scoff at his chains (vs. 3), if you exalt yourself as the final authority in your life instead of him, if you can’t stand the idea that you are obliged to obey him, if you learn to love what he hates and to hate what he loves, you will perish eternally. What happens in this life matters. This is the testing ground. Walk with Jesus and you will gain eternal life. Reject him and you will perish. There are no other options.

Kiss The Son (Ps. 2)

Why do the nations rage, and the peoples plot a vain thing

Why do the nations rage, and the peoples plot a vain thing

The kings of the earth have set themselves

And the rulers speak together against the Lord and His Messiah

Saying "Let us break their bonds in pieces, move this Law from before our faces"

He who sits in the heavens shall laugh, the Lord Himself will scorn them

Then speak to them in His wrath to frighten and to warn them

"I have set My King upon My holy hill of Zion" says the Lord

I will declare the decree the Lord has said to me,

"You are My Son, today I have begotten Thee"

CHORUS

Ask of Me and I will give You all of the nations, they'll be Yours

I will give You all the ends of the earth

You shall break them with a rod of iron into little pieces like a vessel of earth

So be wise oh kings, you judges be instructed

Serve the Lord with fear and rejoice with trembling

Kiss the Son lest He be angry

And you perish in the way when His wrath is turned to flame

Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him

Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him

Ask of Me and I will give You all of the nations, they'll be Yours

I will give You all the ends of the earth

You shall break them with a rod of iron into little pieces like a vessel of earth
